Rene’ Leister, Co-Publisher/Writer

Rene’ Leister discovered her talent for producing the written word in 2012 while she was having her mid-life crisis. “I have always been able to put my thoughts into coherent sentences, but it wasn’t until my major life transition that I realized it wasn’t just a jumble of words. I started a blog to help me release my thoughts and feelings, decided to share with friends and family via Facebook and got positive feedback that my posts were entertaining. Livin’ Out Loud is my first real writing opportunity and I am so excited about the places we can go.”

Born in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, Rene’ relocated to Wilmington in 1999. Mother of two with three grandkids, Rene’ shares her life with her husband, three dogs and five cats. She has obtained certifications as Professional Coach, Hypnotist and NLP Practitioner. Her writing style can be described as “humorous introspection.” Major writing influences include Erma Bombeck and Celia Rivenbark.

 Judy B. Smith, Contributing Writer

Recently celebrating 50 years of marriage to husband, David, Judy has been writing since her high school years. A retired RN who volunteers at NHRMC’s outpatient clinics, she has always enjoyed staying connected to the community through volunteerism even while rearing her family and working professionally as a nurse. Most recently from Oct. 2010 – July, 2013, Judy and David served with the US Peace Corps first in Niger, Africa then in Armenia in Eastern Europe. They have also volunteered for 2 sessions at Vaughan Town‘s English language program in Madrid Spain.  Travel is now at the top of her to-do list in addition to gardening, playing clarinet in the OLLI New Horizons Band at UNCW, reading, cooking and walking on the beach.  Animals, wildlife and anything related to plants also spark her interest.

In spite of lacking degrees in creative writing, Judy’s published writings include articles for several local publications, articles related to health and nursing both for professional journals, and an on-line blog during the Smith’s Peace Corps service. She has published a short piece in Chicken Soup for the Nurse’s Soul and has contributed articles to the Wilmington STAR News and newspapers in Memphis, TN where she previously lived for over forty years. Current writing endeavors include attempts at writing poetry and the bucket- list desire to write a book based on life in the Peace Corps. (There are already so many books with such emphasis that she wonders if there are any readers left to warrant writing another!)

Judy and David have one daughter living in Wilmington and a grandson in San Diego, CA. They are excitedly awaiting the birth of their son and daughter-in-law’s first child in December, 2015. Judy has lived in the Wilmington area since 2006 and writing for Livin’ Out Loud has provided a welcomed outlet for sharing experiences in addition to staying well informed through research and the writing of articles about people, places and activities in the Wilmington area.

Readers with extra time on a hot sunny day or a cold winter’s night may check out Judy’s blog at .
