Indie Expo

The Brooklyn Arts Center at St. Andrews is excited to announce a fabulous, new, community event:

Edge of Urge and DREAMS of Wilmington present INDIE EXPO: Local Fashion, Art, Music and Design at the Brooklyn Arts Center

Fashion icon Edge of Urge and arts education leader DREAMS of Wilmington, a local nonprofit dedicated to building creative, committed citizens, one child at a time, through high-quality, free-of-charge programming in the literary, visual, and performing arts, along with 30 extraordinary fashion designers and pop-up shops, artists, and musicians, will fill the BAC with their gorgeous work and a sense of community.

Great food, the BAC cash bar, and live music will make INDIE EXPO a day to celebrate and discover fashion, art, and design in Brooklyn.

Admission to the public is $5. Proceeds benefit DREAM of Wilmington.

Murrinis Within a Crystal Matrix: The Poetic Glassworks of Richard Ritter reveals the celebrated artist’s complex “murrini” process — a technically intensive development of complex patterns and decorations. Murrinis first reached a high level of sophistication in ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt and are still seen in the millefiori glass of Italy today. Cameron Art Museum. Admission $3.00 to $8.00. Museum Exhibit- Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art

Museum Exhibit — Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art at Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington, NC, highlights the beauty of coiled basketry and shows how a basket can be viewed simultaneously as a work of art, object of use and container of memory. This exhibition features more than 50 baskets and related objects and images. It traces the parallel histories of coiled baskets in Africa and America starting from the domestication of rice in Africa two millennia ago, through the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the Carolina rice plantation, to the present. Visitors will learn about the creativity and artistry of Africans in America from the 17th century to the present. Cape Fear Museum. Admission $4.00 to $7.00. For more information call 910.798.4362

Call for Artists – WAA 30th Annual Juried Art Show and Sale

The Wilmington Art Association’s 2012 30th Annual Juried Spring Art Show and Sale runs in conjunction with the NC Azalea Festival, 4/13-15, in St. James Episcopal Church’s Perry Hall at 25 S. 3rd Street. WAA is accepting entries for the show through 3/5. Juror-judges, Lois Griffel of The Cape Cod School fame (painting/mixed media), and Brownie Harris, noted celebrity and corporate photographer.
